They have a black background around the raised numbers which is supposed to stay. What will take off the old gas residue but not take off the black background? Thanks -Keith

I used denatured alchohol and a VERY gentle piece of fine steel wool. BE CAREFUL THOUGH!! If the cylinder is tinted the numbers don't have to be super dooper clean. Good luck, Neal
