Did not wish to hijack the other thread on making clips.

Every clip I have had and presently have are made of copper. They do not appear to be copper until sanded or bead blasted. Probably would not be cheaper to make based on the price of copper.

There is no real need for spring steel. You are just putting light pressure on the ad glass.

Copper is very soft 'if' you anneal it like on an exhuast gasket. Otherwise, pretty damn stiff.

Here is a pic of the clips I have now. They have been bead blasted. They did not appear to be copper before hand.

Larry--Aren't they a copper alloy of some sort? They seem much too hard to be pure copper?

So you agree they are copper?
Don't know if alloy, I doubt it, but they are not spring steel. Think about a copper pipe. There is soft and hard copper. Annealing is what makes it different.

Many spring clips like this are a copper alloy. Most often spring tempered phosphorus bronze is used. The clips on my 36B are of this material. There is a distinct difference in the color between the two metals. These materials a available at McMaster Carr and MSC. This in not to say that other materials will not work...
