I saw the one listed on Ebay and thought to myself that was the first of its type that I had ever seen. My Socony-Vacuum/Mobil collection's focus is on the Pegasus years, but my initial thoughts were why would a Gargoyle paddle be made of masonite, especially since "most" masonite signs were made in the middle/late time frame of WW2, when the Gargoyle was pretty much not in wide commercial use at that point? Masonite was obviously around in the 30's, so while there is some possibility it could be legit, why are there not more around? There are plenty of the masonite S-V shields from the Tavern displays out there, like ebay item 111354579844, or 191196947389. My brain tells me there would be many more lubester signs made than the Tavern signs so where are the others?!
