This is a long story that happened in a short time.
I began the oil and gas collecting one year ago on Father's Day, June 16th, 2013
I found a Marathon sign standing in the wild on the way to see my 96 year old uncle. One week later, I was on a mad hunt for more 6 foot signs and poles. As I looked and bought and talked and drove across the Midwest I made friends and some that feel like family. My first gas show was Iowa gas, then on to all of the gas shows across the midwest. More friends and deals and great people and seeing collections that are so wonderful photos do no justice. Not a night goes by that someone from across this great county doesn't text me or calls or sends a picture of some crazy sign or pump or story or just to say Hi. What an adventure my wife and best friend have been on. Thank u all for teaching me your very, very bad habits of gas and oil. Now I bleed porcelain too. Did I mention the neon that burns a hole in your heart?
By the way, after a long winter of cleaning signs and painting poles, pouring 90 yards of concrete and I work everyday...this is my first years collection. 35 6 foot signs and poles. Plus a gas station we are restoring. That story will soon follow.
Thank You all for the info and help.
More pictures to come as we stand more up every week.

I've had the immeasurable pleasure of riding along for most of this adventure. The people I've gotten to meet, the the places I've gotten to see, and the history of our country I've learned are worth more to me than I could ever express. And the added bonus is I get to look out my front window and see Alans collection! I'm a lucky man. I'd like to say thank you to Alan for dragging me along for the ride and thank you to all of the people we have met along the way that have been so nice to me.

Holy cow Alan just stumbled on your story. I too have a late onset O&G addiction and I like big signs as well. But I don't have a yard like yours to hoist them up like you have. Great collection. Man you gotta be scouring all the ads, OG and CL to find all the requisite parts. How many of those signs came complete with pole? Just a heads up don't start with globes. LOL.
Very very nice. BTW my experience with the people in the hobby has mirrored yours. All have been very good with their time and expertise.

I just talked to Alan a few minutes ago. They are going to try and stand 5 more tonite. Great people to know. I met Alan at Michigan Gas this year, and realized I used to shoot pool at his dad's pool hall, back when I was a teenager.

Alan, sometime you need to tell the story of your dad's Corvette and the pool hall in non-petro discussion.

Anyway, looking good, and can't wait till we come down and see your signs in person.

If each of those signs could only speak , imagine the stories they could tell and the things they have seen . What a great looking display you have assembled ! Thanks for sharing!
