A similar question could be asked of this seller. Obviously a picker based upon the eBay user name, why didn't the seller research what he had first?

Seller is like a Bar Tender, he sells liquor it's up to the customer to know when he's had enough Not to DRIVE.
Seller IS WRONG on claiming it's Original, but he can't stop STUPID BUYERS.

To a degree E-Bay is to blame for this.

Unfortunately, not everyone is in the know or as honest as this fellow.

If people can pass signs off as real and make a ton of cash, they will. Seller is obviously an a$$, but the buyer is the stupid one. If I have any doubt at all, I will never bid.

Dave, how in the world is Ebay at fault? Ebay, did not sell the item!

Members have sold bogus items on Oldgas in the past... Was it Jim's fault, that the Members were dishonest? Of course not!

If someone sells a bogus item, at a Garage Sale advertised in one's local Newspaper... Is it the Newspaper fault, that the item is not "real"?... The answer is of course, no! The Newspaper didn't sell the item... All it did was give the Seller a platform in which to advertise their items... Same with Oldgas; the Site allowed Members a platform in which they could sell their items... One goes to a Gas Show and a dishonest Seller salts his wares with repops... Is it the Show Organizer that is at fault, for what the dishonest Seller is doing?

Hopefully the answer is again, no... The Show has no control over how honest or dishonest an individual is...

Ebay is the same! Ebay, does not sell the items... Individuals/Company's do... Ebay, never actually sees, handles or inspect any items.... All they do, is allow entities a platform in which they can sell their items...

I read some BS, about how Ebay should "know" if an item is real or not?... How crazy, is that???????????? We here on Oldgas, are suppose to be Collectors. And yet,we bounce questions as to originality, Pedigree and use on items here, on a regular basis... If we are not 100% positive on items... How can anyone expect, Non-Collectors to have any idea if an item is "real" or not????

It always, has been and always will be; the responsibility of the one selling an item to determine if they will be truthful or dishonest...

To hold Ebay, to a higher standard than we hold other selling platforms, is not honest... Nor right....

Bob,
IF just 1% of ebay buyers of these signs would spend just a few minutes searching they wouldn't get Burned. Before I'd spend that much on a sign, I'd do some emailing, searching Google Oldgas archives.

When an item is listed here for sale & WE think/know it's a Fake, WE usually Burn the sellers BUTT 1st till Proven Wrong.

Dave,
Down here they Plainly State on signs "NEED BEER, Not SOBER Enough for WORK"

...heck, you don't even have to do that much work - a search of other auctions on eBay shows the same sign for $22 & $23, Buy It Now!

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
