Thanks for starting a paper/cardboard thread Bob. I've said it many times that these paper posters and the like are much more rare than most signs, but I think due to the nature of the old gas hobby and the durability of the things we collect, paper has never attained the "collectability" that other items have due to the obvious fragile nature of the material. But as I've stated in the past I collected ephemera long before I got into Petroliana so it has a special place in my world! At any rate, here's a few more posters to feast your eyes on! Darin General Petroleum poster, ca. 1936 28"X42" General Petroleum poster advertising new Mobilgas Ethyl, 1934 22"X34" Socony-Mobil Mobiloil Special, 1956 33"X46" Socony Kerosene and Burning Oil cardboard sign ca. late 1930's, 21"X28" Marathon Motor Oil, Time To Change ca. 1940, 28"X45" And last but not least, Golden Shell motor oil, 34"X59"

Outstanding collection, Darin! Thank you for sharing!
I want to thank all those that have paper signage in your collections.. All too often, such items are fragile, tattered and stained; just by the nature that they are made of paper...
But, as the images are showing... There is a great deal of history being preserved by those with these items...
I hope others will continue this thread. As I am enjoying seeing the signage...

Very nice collections. Most of my paper/cardboard signs are packed as my current shop is not heated.
Here's a few I have out.

Except items, from all! Dennis, your Polly Penn and Wil-Flo are outstanding...
Dave, I hear you on unheated garages and out buildings... I had a few of mine out in my unheated garage for a few years... The added curling and foxing that it caused to them; I explained as adding character to them... But, all the while I was mentally kicking myself for not finding a place for them in the house... LOL

This is my favorite of all the paper advertising I have. It's in our great room watching over us when we're in there.

Dave thanks for reminding me/us that maps were some of the very first advertising "signage"... You have a great collection of Leonard maps there, and a great selection of other Companies! Most everyone has one of the smallest forms of paper signage.... Match book covers... Some of mine in the 1/2 bath...:

I'm not sure... It is approx 24" tall by 19" wide... I won it on ebay and it came to me, in the frame... I was very lucky to be able to snag this, pup! So, it could a Newspaper ad or could be a paper poster from the early 30s... I have this one from the same time period and it came out of a "Dealer's Advertising Book", you can still see the perforations from the spiral wire it was attached too... I tried to buy the whole book of these paper posters, but the owner wasn't ready to sell:

I like paper items quite a bit also but it's hard to make the room for them though. These are either stuff I have/had, stuff I've come across or stuff that will be mine soon! I'll post more later that Dan M will dig!
