That's the one. I talked to a graphics designer and he said it was $$$ to do. I think Mike Slama has a similar one, but not with the Ethyl. Anyone making one or able too? I don't want to get crossways with Copyright laws.....

If you can get a good picture, a GOOD printing shop with the vinyl printing machine can scan it and print any size you want, I have had several done for lubesters etc. average cost was 20-30.00 each

The problem has always been tryingto find a good picture and large enough to get dimensions. Had a guy building me one with the vinyl, etc. He did the ad glass for the pump, but he lost interest in doing it.

Doug, bot sure what you mean by dark ad glass. ALso, didn't get your email.

Anyone have a decent picture of this decal??

Alex:

It looks to me that the ad glass between the two pumps is different/color? I think the sticker on the pump is 12 X 18, maybe longer for the ethyl ? I'll check for photos also.

I'll send you another email tonight....

hi Doug. I finally (duh) got what you meant by the different colors. The ad glass for the Fire Chief Ethyl is Red with White letters and the regular is White with Red Letters. I used the red with white letters on my resotration as well. Got it from an original ad glass a guy ad. The guy that was making the pump plate (decal) for me took a Fire Chief pump plate and took and ethyl decal and was putting it together, but then got another job and couldn't get him to finish it. My plan was to make a copy then put it on a magnetic sheet and just stick it onthe pump. (You know like a refridgerator magnet. look forward to your email

I am only speculating on this, but a fire truck is red, an airplane at the time was polished aluminum?

I've been on Slama to make these, he makes the regular fire chief already. He's going to do them to match the Fire Chief he already makes in water slide. If you want it done in vinyl go with T-way or Koz. Have had decals made by both and both do great work.

Here you go. Close up and lit up. Sorry I forgot to rotate the picture. Wish I had before restoration pics of the pump. It was a mess. But, two pieces of sheet metal and three new corners and it turned out OK. Even though the bezel is the Standard Oil version...it was similar to the one shown in the Restoration Book, so there it is. Just need an Fire Chief Ethyl Version decal.

IMO, water slide for that decal would look more original. But that's my opinion.

Will contact the people mentioned and see how it goes. I was thining of putting it on a thin magnetic sheet. That way it could be ealily removed if someone wanted something different.

Hi Alan. That's notit as DB pointed out. I thinkpage 202 (book is at work) of PCM's Pump restoration boof shows two different versions. Mr Slama makes the one on top without the Ethyl and is close. I am looking into getting one made.

Alex,
I know you said someone else is making it for you but I was just up for the challenge. Here is what I came up with. I think that the decal was the same size as the non-Ethal. I blew them up and compared sizes and compared to the little pic at the beginning of the forum, the Ethal signs hat and shield are smaller than the non-Ethal. I shrunk them to approx size and everything fit. The only thing I couldn't make out is the lettering above the Fire Chief. Any ideas?

Anyways it was kind of fun making it..lol.

Nice job. I believe the missing word is Texaco If you look on page 202 (I think) of PCM'S Gas Pump Restoration book you will see the two different versions.

Alex:

Here is my take on the decal.

I used a 'White' "T" Texaco Logo and the 'Old' style Ethyl logo.

The overall size came out to be 12" wide by 21.5" tall.

Everything is 'Vector' art - so re-sizing the decal, or any part of the decal, is no problem.

Let me know if you need anything changed.

Later . . .

JIM, YOU SHOULD DEF PUT THE WORD "SAMPLE" OVER YOUR EFFORTS...SINCE ANYBODY CAN DOWNLOAD YOUR WORK AND USE IT! JUST A SUGGESTION.

Jim, Alex will probably back me up here. I believe it should be a BlackT. Fire-Chief came out in 1932, WhiteT started being phased in around 1936-37... First porcelain pump plate was a whiteT 1940. JMTC

Forgot to say your artwork looks great !!!

Doc, I don't understand putting the word sample in the artwork ? I mean it's all there if you were to copy it... It's not like a photograph. Do you mean put the work sample in like hat where all the detail is ???

T-Way: WOW......looks great.

Doug is right, I think it should be a black T and definitely put sample on that or it will be all over the internet. What do the rest of you guys think? I need a set 12X 18 on the magnetic material. Thansk for your efforts

Will call you.

Wouldn't it be longer ? Just my take on it, from old photographs. It looks like just the fire-chief sign was 12 X 18 ? Then they would ad the Ethyl. Am I wrong ???

DOC:

I could have put the word SAMPLE on the art - but I figure if someone is desperate enough to steal my artwork instead of paying for a couple of decals . . .

---------

Doug:

Thanks for the suggestion on the 'Black' "T". I'm not an expert on Texaco and the reference photo on page 1 is real crappy - so I guessed.

No problem to convert it to a 'Black' "T" for the final output though.

---------------------------

FYR (For Your Reference) - I've probably got about 5+ hours into this art. The Ethyl logo was done earlier, as was the Texaco logo and Fire-Chief art. There's probably 3.5 hours total there.

Then I had to lay out the decal, manipulate the pieces to get the proportions to look correct - and recreate the artwork for the 'hat'.

Fortunately, I have a porcelain pump plate with the hat/Texaco logo on it - so that gave me their relationship - and reference to 'draw' the hat in the computer.

That took 2 hours+.

As usual - no art charge to the customer.

Now the art is available to anyone that wants decals - just give us a call.

Later . . .

Jim

Okay . . . after some assistance from some fellow Oldgassers, we've come to the conclusion that the decal should be 12" wide by 18" tall. Just like the regular Texaco pump plate/decal.

So I readjusted the artwork to make that height and here it is. (With SAMPLE on it for those the were worried about 'poachers'. LOL)
