I would fathom to guess that any person or collection that appears on the show would be bombarded by others wanting access within a very short time of a show airing. I've noticed on several occasions where Old Gassers recognize or know the location of a "pick" on the show, and obviously other locals would as well. I think exposing yourself or your collection/accumulation would not be worth the risks, especially in this day and age.

Thanks

My collection was featured on the Canadian Pickers. I enjoyed it as it was a lot of fun.

I've had at least 400 if not more people stop by as a direct result of the show. From all across Canada people tied it into their holidays or business plans. I signed a release and had them identify Dave's Garage on the episode. Those wishing to get a hold of me were able to locate Dave's Garage and find me.

The money I gave up by selling them items below market value, I more then made up through sales via Dave's Garage. The episode has been replayed about 20 times (that I know of) in the past 1 1/2 yrs. How much would I have paid for that much national advertising on a major TV network?

In my circumstances it was a win, win situation. Even though the show has been cancelled the reruns will play for years to come. I still notice a spike in sales ever time the episode replays.

There was no BS on the show. They purchased every item for the amount shown on the show...actually they purchased more then what was shown on the episode. They film enough material for a 30 minute segment but usually feature three collections in an hour giving each pick 15 minutes of coverage.

My brother Anthony turned them down about 3 months ago, we thought it was bad for business. We didn't want to be labeled as "the red hot pickers" by other collectors in the hobby so we just thought it was best to pass. 2 years ago when Anthony started Red Hot Relics it might have been a different story but since being in the hobby and understanding that its not all about money and talking with many veteran collectors we weighed the decisions and ultimately chose not to participate.

the last thing I need is making my collection known to everyone... next thing ya know someone is trying to steal something, and unknowingly meets my dog, who does the right thing and tears into the thief. then I get sued and they put my dog down.

...maybe I think too far ahead. smile

Two big 110 lb+ Rottweilers, shown on the episode would be the least of the thieves problems. It's the owner you need to worry about...he's mean & unpredictable.

Dave,
I don't understand you selling items for what they offered which was probably way below Fare Wholesale prices. All pickers say they need more meat left on the bone, that kinda leaves you w/ chewing on the Bone. They are asking the High Prices, they can pay Fare Wholesale +. Discount w/ Volume, no Volume = NO Discount.
