It's always neat to read and travel back to those simpler times and the sense of family that existed in all communities. Now a days, we hardly know our neighbors let a lone the man who pumps the gas.

The picture is neat...I have seen that cardboard Texaco guy by the banjo pole before, but never with what he was holding...Now I know. I assume the top part of the sign changed depending on what was being marketed at the time......

Great article,thanks for sharing.
A friend of mine here in town had a similar lifestyle.
He too said the wrecker calls were his favorite part of the job.
He could write a book..
