I would like to restore my Wayne Cut 615 to Indian Gasoline. I have seen some done up in the green and blue which looked real nice. I was wondering if they were originally Texaco red? Would that be more authentic? Would it necessarily reduce the value to not be 100% authentic?? Or should a person just go with what they like?? Anybody have any thoughts on this??

According to the "Gas Pump Collectors guide" the only Indian pumps listed are after Texaco purchased Indian. These are solid red pumps. If you are restoring the pump for yourself, I'd go with what YOU like.

INDIAN REFINING COMPANY originally painted their pumps an brownish-red "rust" color and carried a globe with a running Indian. Starting in (approximately) 1924, the globe was changed to a red "ball" with blue "INDIAN" and "GAS" arched above and below, on a white background. Most (visible)pumps added a dark blue at the top and bottom of the cylinder. After The Texas Company acquired control of the INDIAN in 1931, an "INDIAN GAS" was carried as a sub-regular at TEXACO stations. The INDIAN pumps at formerly-INDIAN stations remained the same color(s) and same globe, with the addition of the art-deco Indian bead-work design plate. INDIAN pumps at stations which were already TEXACO were painted "TEXACO red" and carried the same globe as FIRE CHIEF pumps (but with the INDIAN GASOLINE plate).

If you're interested in the histories of INDIAN REFINING COMPANY and HAVOLINE Motor Oil, drop me an e-mail and I'll be happy to send you copies of some notes which I've put together.
