I bought this old Gilbarco pump off a farm, where its been for longer than anyone there could remember, and it had 2 Red Crown pump plates on it. When I removed the plates, I discovered the decals underneath! One of them just crumbled away as I removed the plate, but the other was still intact and must have been stuck on good, when it was originally installed.
Just thought you all might enjoy seeing it!

No date markings on it?

This may not even be a close guess...but when Texaco used the name "ethyl" prior to Sky Chief, they used the same ethyl logo in the 30s.

I got the info from the pump Resotration book inthe back showing the different brands....Am operating under the assumptionm they are correct.

And, Dick Bennet...no comments onthe Standard Oil Face Bezels being used on a Texaco pump...LOL.

But, I would guess your decals would have been on a pump llike this....

I looked at the pictures of the pump and thought to myself that's odd, never seen a 96 series pump without ad glasses. Looked thru Jacks book; that was a non computing clock face pump originally Model G&B 297. Cool pump first manufactured in 1938 so that's the oldest the decals can be 1938 and later.

Wonder if the clock face mechanism is still at the farm somewhere.

Randy: you are corrrect...that's the problem with typing...not always a complete thought. I meant to say the combination of the ethyl logo with/on the decal.....I may still not be saying it right...but hopefully everyone gets the drift.

1920’s-30’s signs and logos use the E.G.C. (Ethyl Gasoline Coporation) late 40's use only Ethyl Coporation.

Not necessarily a clock pump...there are plenty of 96 computers with no ad glass. Not terribly uncommon in the midwest...never seen a non-ad-glass version on the west coast though.

after a little research & calling the ethyl corp. this is what I came up with:
Dating back to 1921, when Charles Kettering first discovered a solution to engine “knock,” and formed General Motors Chemical Corporation, to 1924 when the company became known as Ethyl Gasoline Corporation, and finally Ethyl Corporation in 1942...

So anything Eyhyl Corp is post 1942??? Just curious as I have some Sinclair lenses and a globe that look identical minus the ethyl logo.

W/ the Exception of the EGC logo the decals Could have been much older than the pump if they were still in use in 1938.
NOT likely a Clock Mech. would have been changed out to a VR after being installed on a farm, UN-less gasoline was being sold to the general public.

One reason this 96 wasn't in Jack's book is the Publisher Removed several images [& it seems at random], some others could have been removed instead. The publisher is only interested in printing the book, not in being historically correct or showing each variation.

DB is correct about the publisher deleting some of the pumps, but that ain't going to happen in #3.

Actually, if you have a picture of a pump that isn't in #2, please send it to me, you will be acknowledge.

Here is a G&B 96 with out ad glass. I have a couple right now.

I'm positive this was a computer pump! It is a Gilbarco 96 C and was set up withy a VR reset crank! It has the lift off doors and I have had several in the past just like it!
