I got this sign thinking it was an original 1951 Standard oil Pump plate but now I am unsure of its authenticity. If you can give me some advice please comment. It is an Ebay post and is way above the average cost of one. The Ebay number is 201128694309.

Looks Right, BUT Over Priced IMO, Offer 1/2. Most sellers are FISHING, Might not be the 1st time it's been listed.

DB, appears that the e-Bay seller is the OP above. I doubt they want to buy their own sign...but at that price it may be the only way to get a sale. wink

Who am I to go against DB and Randy, but I would not buy this sign. When I look at these signs there is one thing I watch for and that is the radius of the boarder line relative to the trim edge. It seems on all the real ones, this blue line stays concentric with the trim edge in the corners.
Also, the boarder gap should stay constant and the OP's sign looks different from the top to the side in my eyes.
Picture 1 is the OP's sign
Picture 2 is another what I would certainly think original.
Like I said, I could be all wet!!! But I would never buy one of these signs that does not pass this test of concentricity at the corners. And certainly not at that price.
That's just me.

You are certainly right Steve. I have been watching things like that on other signs as well.

I just looked at Randy's reference signs. Perfectly concentric corners. And a great looking pair of signs!!
I've just watched quite a few of these closely on ebay and on this site, and a couple in person, and, for me, this is the "go to" check on these signs. The concentric corners.

Ebay item in question is a repro IMO. Ever seen a known original with grommets? I have not......
Look for my post with laying a half dollar coin on the radius of originals, it will be a perfect match.

Does that mean you are going to correct your listing to accurately reflect that the sign is a $20.00 reproduction?

I note that currently, it is still listed as an original with a considerably inflated price.
