Isn't this a reproduction globe?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TEXACO-ETHYL-GAS...=item3f39f42746

In the globe cd, I only find this globe pictured as a 1 piece OPC globe and also as a 13.5" lens for a glass globe. Nothing pictured as a 15" lens in a metal body.

If a reproduction, this guy is going to collect about a $3,000 profit if he hooks an inexperienced collector.

I thought it was too when i seen it... but then again i dont collect Texaco stuff.
Back of lens looks like a odd to me from what i can see. Also the green looks light. Thought Texaco was more green then tealish, maybe just bad photo ...Odd

Wow!! That original looks incredible!!! One of my fav's!!

Did either of you write the seller about this?

The frame sure looks to be original. No??

Should this not be reported?

I wish some of the globe experts would chime in on this.

As for the color of the "T", some of those on the CD have a lighter looking green. There actually seems to be several different shades. Some of which could be photography I suppose.

Reproduction! Technically fantasy as original 15" Texaco Ethyls had a white background with black lettering.

I offer quart can re-lidding, can rolling, lid stamping, and dent removal.

I bought a globe a while back with a 15" Texaco lens that "felt" like an original, but according to the books I knew this particular design did not exist in the 15" size originally. I say "felt" as it has the correct feeling gritty white frit like an original would. It has the same color of green in the T as the Ethyl one in question though which is off.
I got with Aaron Hop who said there was a Canadian maker who 15 or 20 years ago had reproduced some 15" lenses that were the closest to the original manufacturing process that he had ever seen. I wonder if this one could have been made by the same company? Looking at the pic that shows the inside of the globe the lenses look well made and gritty like the repro I have. They were not marked as reproductions.

I sent the seller a message informing him that the globe was not an original and suggested he modify his listing. We will see if the listing gets changed.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.

If you read the listing...you will note over and over seller claims the body is original. Not once, does the seller claim the lenses to be original. I think, they know what they have.

I dont know Dave, the first line in the listing "TEXACO ETHYL ORIGINAL GAS PUMP GLOBE"
And not to sound PC incorrect, but the seller looks to be a woman. I mean no disrespect, but there can only be a hand full of woman who would know whether or not that is real?
Who know's. I just hope know sucker buys it.
On the other hand, it is an awesome looking set up!! I wish it was real!!
