I know this is a well discussed topic but i have found a very cool way to get rust stains off without acid. I have been detailing car for awhile and had some good products to remove fallout matter and such. I used a product called CarPro's Iron X on these sign and that was it. This stuff is cool as it turns all the rust a purple color and brings the impurities to the surface. I use this product on my Alpine White BMW so i have no worries about using this on more than a $20 sign in the future.
After letting the Iron X sit for about 5 minutes i washed it off with water. No scrubbing or rubbing with compounds which was nice.
The stickers i used a razor and some Goo Gone before applying IronX to the signs. I think they turned out great.

I read the whole add and was impressed with its claim. At the end of the description it says to wash thoroughly and car is ready to clay now. Just what does it mean to clay a car?

Claying a car removes all contaminates. It basically cleans the surface to bare surface and allows for a great waxing and polishing surface. Works great for tree sap, road grime, and overspray that otherwise wouldn't get removed by washing.

I was impressed with their products. They are a bit pricey but do wonders. Carpro's and ChemicalGuys is all i use now on my cars. Little goes a long way and why be cheap on your vehicle. Rust and bird poo doesnt help it so might as well keep them clean. Wish i got photos of the stuff in action on the signs. The liquid is clear until it finds something to remove then turns purple. Well the whole sign was purple. Stuff stinks bad like sulfur or really bad GAS!
At least i have some spare lead signs when the next pump comes in to redo.

A lot of stuff takes rust off. But, I have found nothing that really improves sun oxidation or dulling of gloss and colors. Maybe it's the lighting in the two different pics. But, the after picture looks like it even brought out some shine on that porcelain. Thanks for the suggestion.

For removing rust and grime from porcelain and painted steel I find Gojo natural orange pumice hand cleaner sometimes works well.
