I need to know what model number this Wayne pump is. It is about 5 feet tall and has a plug in the top for a globe mount to fit. It came from an old electrical contracting business. I was told it was installed in about 1940, and removed in 1996 and stored inside. It has some pretty good dents in it, but is not rusty.

Goober is correct.
Cut Down WAYNE 70. Some were cut for the New Image after WW2, till pump production was back into full production.

Note where your Visi glass is. IF the visi & VR were lower it would have room for adv glass.

After some careful scraping with a razor blade, I uncovered these Shell decals. The entire pump was painted white when this pump was in service with these decals
What era would this have been in? Under this paint scheme, the base and center portion were red, with the side panels painted yellow.

That decal was on my pumps when I was a Shell dealer in the early 70s.

I doubt the story of it being from a old electrical company and being installed in 1940. It was probably sold originally for use in a Shell station, cut down in the late 40s, then sold (to the electrical company) as a used pump in the 1970s, then it was painted white.
