I recently acquired an early tin Hood Tires sign. I love the graphics and I'm wondering if there is a way to prevent the paint from flaking more so that I don't lose them. Any information would be appreciated.

all you can do is clearcoat it. which is okay, imo, if trying to preserve a sign and keep it from flaking away

won't flake any more if you keep it from getting it moist, heated garage or house.

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

It must be how they were painted when made, I have a vertical version of that sign that has flaked also.It has been kept somewhat in a controlled environment and dry in our shop and has not gotten any worse.
