I was talking with a friend of mine and between us, we cannot figure out what this little sign attaches too. It is 8 1/2 by 6, with a 3 1/4 inch flange on top! So, where does it belong?

Were these not used for attaching to a post, for marking a pipe line or something? Rick

I have seen a sign like this at a rock quarry before. They bolt them down at the edge of the quarry as a warning to people who might jump off. The flange goes over the edge and the writing is at your feet.

I have one of those only mine is a little bit longer and shorter. They're line marker signs that attached to a post. It sets on the top of the post and they used a u-bolt around the post that was the width of the holes and secured the sign with two nuts on the front, clamping it in place to the post. Savvy?......GB

Makes sense they were used as pipeline markers as the top portion would be visible when they do their fly over inspections.
