I bought my first two oil cans about a month ago. I'm pretty sure it was Dave Gill who warned me that collecting oil cans can be more addictive than signs. I'm pretty sure he was right on the money..

Funny you said that Dan. I was out in my drive cleaning them when my girlfriend got home. She looked at me and said, "how much?" I told her, she walked away, and we haven't spoke a word since. So, I'm gonna sell a couple and hope that gets me back in the house.

My girlfriend thinks anyone who would pay for a sign is crazy. I'll get a sign and ask her how much she thinks it's worth. She says, "I wouldn't give you a dollar for it." She really doesn't understand why anyone would pay for an empty oil can. It's ok though. I am making progress. A couple months ago I got the ok to keep my signs in the basement she never goes in. I want to put them throughout the house. Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen as long as she is alive. One day I'm gonna get up the nerve to bring a visible pump home. I know a lot of you guys have had this same struggle. Would love to know how you managed to pull it off.

My wife likes me collecting as it is a better investment of my money. I have my own account for doing this and i buy and sell to make my collection better. No fuss or anything since it doesnt come out of our bank account. She is even going to go to shows with me now. This should get interesting. She asked me how much one of my PPP's cost and a told her and she laughed. She thought i was kidding until she found out the real price i paid!!! LOL

Your a lucky guy Dan. My girlfriend rather me invest my money in a handbag or pair of shoes she wants. Her idea of going out picking is driving to Cincinnati and hitting up a mall that she rarely gets to shop at.

Brian, I am going to give you some advise! My stepdad told me this and it has works well!! Don't share with your wife or girl friend what this stuff costs. Write it down in a note book or get software to track it so if you pass away someone knows what it's worth. My stepdad said my mom didn't need to know what he spent on racing and all i know is he spent a lot!! LOL http://hargettracing.com/He passed away 2 years ago so my stepbrother hasn't been keeping it up.

Things are much better now that my wife is out of the loop on what it costs. She knows its not cheap...

This is hilarious how buying your first oil cans has switched to advise on a relationship. To top it off maybe post your GF pic in the non petro forum looking for a value! LOL Don't forget to include measurements as it helps to determine an accurate value.
Just kidding and all in good fun.
Cheers

I'm not sure it's possible to trade up. She may not share my interest in petroliana. But, when it comes to her, I'm like Tony Romo is with the Cowboys. She is NFL quality and I should be in the CFL. Keeping my mouth shut about what I paid is probably the best idea. I should probably sneak more into the basement while she isn't home as well.

Hey you dissing the CFL? The CFL gave the NFL; Joe Kapp, Warren Moon, Joe Theismann, Joe Pizarcik (OK not a great example), Cameron Wake, Bud Grant and Marv Levy (both lost the SB 4X!) among many. LOL

Your girlfriend has the same weakness as my wife. My best advice is the “Coach Factory Store” in Edinburg, IN will net you a trip back in the house for about half what it will cost you at the Coach Store in Louisville. Shows her you value her as much as your signs and oil cans. Now you have to decide is she worth the “investment”. The fact that the huge Antique Mall and Large antique store next to the outlet mall can be good places to find another oil can is purely coincidental.

Do like I did, find a woman who loves the hobby just as much or more than you do. My wife is a map junkie, she gets mad when she can't go out hunting on farms with me. Makes for a much easier life that's for sure! Goober

Chuck. I like the way you think. I have been going to the outlet store in Northern KY. No antique malls anywhere to be found. I guess it's time for a road trip to Lebanon. Dave. I like were your going with the Mercedes SUV bribe. One day, I hope to be able to pull that off. Goober. You met my girlfriend a couple years back when we came up and got those signs hanging on your garage. You told me I needed to marry her. Or, was that just your advice when she was in the room?
