Had an interesting day with a friend straightening his 48" Sinclair sign out. I never realized how hard these are to get back in shape. Sign had a few holes, cuts, and one heck of a bend in the sign. Got the hammer out and beat the dents back in and folded the edges over where it was cut then went to the bend. Looked like someone dropped it from 12' and it hit hard. A few strikes later on the bend and i knew it was going to take a bigger hammer!
We weren't worried about porcelain loss as it is rough anyways. So we got the old Bowtie (chevy truck for you city people) out and had a plan. Lay it down and RUN IT OVER!!! It worked very very well and took the bend right out after some soft touches. At least now it will lay flat on the barn. I wish i took some photos of the signs' bend before hand. It wasnt pretty and didnt get any prettier but straighter!!
Thanks for reading,
Dan

After the high dollar straightening! LOL

Dan, I was wondering if any additional porcelain ended up coming off or cracking when you ran it over?

Nothing significant just tiny shards

I have done the same thing only used a "Blue Oval" Ford instead. Does a great job and not a lot of porcelain damage. I did it on a Standard strip sign.

The porcelain was missing from the original damage so I guess not much happened bending back to where it once was.

Tried the same technique with a 30" Sign that was bent and folded some. Used a Large compact tractor wheel and plywood to flatten the sign. As you can see it worked well. The condition of the sign is -10 as you can see so I wasn't worried about porcelain loss.
