I picked up a decent United Motors Service 48" porcelain neon skin. It is the version that has 6 holes for neon because the tubing all came out of the face. (unlike others with 2-holes in which the outside neon ring would have originally surrounded the can & not border the sign)
My question... I've never had a neon completely redone, what can a person expect to pay for a sign like this to be redone & have a can made, tubing redone, insulators, transformers, etc?
And along with that, does anyone have a good contact for that kind of work in around central IL?
not my sign - but same version

Time they build the can, add transformers, glass, wire, insulators, etc., $1200+.

I would make the can myself for sure if it was rectangular... as I think all I would need is a band saw & use someones brake. but since the can is oval shaped, its not quite as simple unfortunately.

Hi Bryce, we just did a round can (my avatar), we don't have a band saw or brake and it came out nice. Pretty easy to use a piece of plywood as a temporary jig to hold the supports and then wrap sheet metal in a circle (or oval) around the supports. You,ll probably want to flange the sheet metal, you'll need to make triangle cuts in the flange so you can bend it in a circle, no biggie.

16-18 at least, Hang mine from the back with j mounts that attach to the metal. Hangs well and strong.

I do mine in 080 routable aluminum then wire weld seams. Very strong can. Craig I do like the j mount idea.
