These are my buys over the last 2 or so weeks.
Gotta give a big shout out to Bryce for a great packing job on the bottle set!! What an incredible piece to own!! Insanely excited about it!!
And the liqui-shine can, first time I ever saw this can. Love it!!
I posted the before pic on the Pennzoil can for fun. It was a mess. I gambled a bit and was hoping it would clean up a little better. But not bad. Probably paid a little to much though. But I like it.

Got to add some early Sweney square cans to my collection this week. Found separately, one on ebay, and the other at auction. The 1-gal took a lot of work to clean, but it made quite the improvement. Happy to have them both!

I used some 409 and a soft terry cloth rag. It was mainly oil and grease residue on it. The 409 cuts the grease. But you have to be careful and patient as you go. I have had a few instances when rubbing to hard where the 409 ate at the graphics on a can or two. Then I just use a dish soap and warm water.

...take my word: you can't be that patient - 409 will eat the paint if you just let it sit on the surface for a moment...

I agree with Mark. I even hesitated to say I used the 409. Because it is dangerous.
Look up the "how to clean oil cans" threads. I'm sure there are other, less risky ways.

dawn dish soap and warm water... being careful not to scrape too hard, as the more its exposed to water the weaker the paint will become.

each can is different and will withstand different cleaning treatments.

on rough early cans - I've had good luck with 'Goof off' and shop towels, working quickly on problem areas.

also, red color areas seem to be the weakest.

ive also heard good things of using a wet 'magic eraser'

trial, error, & experience

Steve, I agree; nice little sign. Unfortunately, this one is etched by battery acid. Can you post a pic of your charger.
