I worked in my father's Standard Oil, Shell, Mobil, and Studebaker business's in the 60's and 70's. I still have my first piece, a Studebaker dial-type thermometer featuring Studebaker Batteries. I have never seen another one. I went into business for myself in a Texaco building that was built in 1928 as an independent selling Red Hat and Aviation gasolenes and Socony oil. I have original pictures of the station that none of you have seen replicated. Built with two inside bays with connecting service pits, third bay added about 1950 and two hoists added when pits were filled (I have one interior pic). I started collecting in earnest then and displayed gas globes from all of the oil companies my father and I represented. Pure, Standard Red Crown, Standard Gold Crown, Shell, Mobile, Texaco Sky Chief and Fire Chief. The attic of the old building yielded a few treasures, such as new 1939 30" round Sky Chief in original box and glass slides used at local theatre for advertising various product such as Exide Batteries and Goodyear Tires. I regret selling all of the globes, a reproduction pump, and most of my signs when I was forced out of business in the big push in 1990 to eliminate dealers.

51 years old and have been collecting mainly signs for about 20 years. Walls of both my buildings are covered and I've started sneaking them in the house. Good thing the wife likes them too.

I'll turn 56 this month. I've been collecting gas pump salt & pepper shakers (and the plastic banks by the same manufacturer) for about 15 years. I very much appreciate this website for the wealth of knowledge it provides.

I'll be 73 in March and started collecting gas & oil in about 1990. First and only time at Hershey and bought a Fry 5 gallon and had it shipped home and never stopped. I was one of the first people on ebay when there were only a total of 950 feedbacks and ebay was excited to have it hit 1000.

67 and been collecting for 20+ years. My interest stemmed from growing up in the 50's in a small KS town and hanging out at the gas stations.

Collecting in the pre-internet days was a little more personalized and I still have a collection of business cards from a lot of the Oldgas old-timers, including Ray Seider (hotcidr).
