Ha, Fred... long story. But involved a short stint of working at Kroger. Probably time to change that username!

Tom. I believe it to be real, the main flag for me was the size. But from my experience, the grommets looked good and the 1 or 2 I could find in research also sold as original and seemed legit. I'm not sure how to prove either way, I think it's going to be up to the next owner to authenticate it. I have owned it for a while now and have taken it to 2 shows trying to get info on it with no luck.

so it is 11 3/4 then???
If so that is definately a reproduction...
I liked it BUT was very sceptical even though you advertised it as vintage. I almost bought it BUT wanted to ask history first.
Im glad I did...Gotta be careful just assuming its an original and listing it as such...

Bryce, Your REPRODUCTION listing SOLD AS AN ORIGINAL??? As you know...
WHY would you believe an 11 3/4 inch REPO to be real???
You said you had red flags about it BUT still listed it as original??? Any other time you get on here and ask its originality??? just sayin....

tom... it hasnt sold quite yet. me and the buyer are investigating it (he is a well established member here). you dont know the full story, so please dont jump to conclusions. there is an inquiry with the Pan-am museum regarding the sign.

i always question originality... i believed this one to be real because I bought it as a luggage cart sign along with it there was another one that was around 15". the story seemed very legitimate to me. if it is decided its not that, then it will be marked as so and not sold. end of story.

Not the end of story...
How about letting us know what you find out...Also do your homework FIRST, BEFORE selling it as an antique original!!! You were a cheer leader in pointing out repo's and bad sellers on ebay to oldgas and reporting them. Then you do the SAME AS THEM???
That was my point...
Did this sign come from Illinois auction where you picked all the cans and everything??? There was lots of aged repo's mixed into that auction...
I know of 11 inch original signs and 12 inch originals, BUT 11 3/4 has ALWAYS been the REPO!!!
The aged grommets dont look right either, nor does the white back...

it did not come from that auction, I have owned it for close to a year.

not sure why I need to repeat myself, but as I mentioned, the sign is not sold. myself and another member of this site are showing due diligence with the sign, rest assured. thats all I have to say.

if anything solid comes to fruition, I will be glad to post an update. now stop wearing out your caps lock and punctuation keys.
