I have a shell licence plate topper with the letters TCP across the shell. Does anybody know what this stands for?

ive seen shell signs ETC... with TCP
i think its an additive in their oils that saved your engine bearings but in about the 90s they discovered different.
(TCP = Tricresyl phosphate) its a neurotxin

so when you went to get an oil change you got the good stuff when you got the TCP!!!

NOPE i looked & it was in the gas also.

WOW that was quick, but the TCP is Embossed in the shell, and a place for initals is located on the bottom near the attachment part.

The topper you are refering to was made with TCP embossed on the tag. This is a harder to
find attachment than the plain Shell with the flags below. As was stated in an earlier reply many tags had places to put your initials on them. On this one there is a rectangular area below the Shell where initials could be attached.. As to what the TCP stands for I know that it was an additive to their gasoline but will refer to the earlier post as to what it was.

Chris,
Tom 2 Tone had it correct, "TCP" stands for "Tri-Cresyl-Phosphate". It was used to offset the build up of carbon deposits caused with tetra-ethyl lead. Shell started using it around 1950 and stopped with the advent of unleaded gasoline.

You learn something every day in this site. In my youth TCP was commonly called Tom Cat P*ss.

Dozer man you beat me to it! heres a story my Dad told me.
Dad worked for a local TV station bak in the 50's. Back then a lot of the local commercials were live using announcers. Dad was working the master control panel and would be able to give directions to the anouncer through an ear piece.

Announcer " and Shell gasoline has TCP!" "TCP stands for.....
Dad in ear piece "TOM CAT P**s."
Announcer live. Tom c... NO IT"S NOT!

Lucky the guy caught himself in mid sentence.

Still doesen't explain TCP. But I like dad's version best.

John
