Not trying to throw you off on your original idea, but I used these magnets from Lee Valley to hang some porcelain sign without mounting holes....they worked very well. However, you need to be able to counter sink the cup....unless your sign isn't flat and has a return on the edges. Anyways, check them out for next time.
