Okay I just had to ask, since Jack is going to put this in his new book there must have been more than two models of 850's. besides the round and square. I have owned a few round Tok 850's and two 950's. both 950's had tags with 950 on them. I have never seen a small 850. It was always my impression that the smaller pump was the 950. So what made the "small 850" different form the 950? The 950 is on the left by the way. As long as I have been doing these I am still amazed at what I DON"T know or what I have NOT seen. John, I'm glad you asked this, because I'm wondering the same thing. Is the visi the same on the two 850s and different on the 950? I have a 950 and am wondering if its the same size as a "small" 850. Even being"small" its still a pretty heavy "little" beast.

Ed I don't know. I have never seen a small 850. I always thought the small version was the 950. ???

I have had more 850 small then large. the large have always had the big access door. the so called small that I have had did not. Also the visi were like the ones John had pictured above. And these were all 850s for what's it worth. Hang in there the pump police will be here soon. lol.

I was told long ago they had different metering systems. Volumeter vs displacement type meter or something like that. Never tried to verify it but think I have literature on both somewhere that may help clarify it.

i'll take some measurements of mine this weekend and post. but my ID plate says 850. and it does not have the access door like most of the "normal" 850's that I've had. chuck

I've been looking for the larger diameter, taller set with the access door for several years now and have yet to come across any. I have found at least three sets of the smaller size. Aint that about the way it goes.

Good question that I doubt will positively ever be answered. I have never had a small one with the access door. As far as the round ones go I have only seen 2 sizes but I have had several variations. How about the one with the cast iron top, you don't find those very often. Then there is the center section, cast iron vs. sheet metal.

sounds like just from the feedback here, that one is not rarer than the other. and I would consider them equal in value regardless.
but I do wonder what kind of info DB would have had to offer, miss his insight & never-ending knowledge on pumps
