Watch the 5 minute video of how it went down and tell me you don't agree.
I too have Year of manufacture plates on my antique car,and had a similar experience where the young officer was clueless and pulled me over.
Unreal..

id be suing too! wow. its one thing to pull a car over and question something... but to be threatened like that as a law-abiding citizen - id make sure that dept pays for a couple new cars to add to the garage.

Failures on multiple levels there. That state's motor vehicles division certainly deserves some of the blame due to the a$$ backwards way of handling the vintage plates on the registration card. Expecting the police officers to know to look at another area of the registration to find the actual license plate number is ridiculous.

How difficult is it to have standardized insurance/registration documents and a national data base for the information?

Heavy handed police tactics coupled with inexperienced, over zealous police officers that are quick to react and slow to accept responsibility are the culprits here.

Everything else is an excuse.

Law abiding citizens must always be treated as such. Seems like the problem is much more deep rooted then just the officers at the scene. Where was the oversight and supervision by higher ranking officers? Commanding officers, obviously agreed with the action taken as the driver was detained overnight and charges submitted. Seems like a systemic problem to me. The question that begs to be asked is; Citizen's place their trust in these officers to conduct more complex and serious investigations??? Scary thought.

Standardized documents and federal database is not needed. I can't think of anything that needs more federal involvement.

How long have YOM plates been allowed, 30 years? Stopping a car for running YOM plates is bad enough, but everything the cops did from there on is inexcusable. Multiple officers yelling commands to a confused person is a big problem waiting to happen. With the way those officers over reacted things could have ended much worse. A badge, gun, attitude and ignorance is a bad combination.

I admire police officers for the often thankless jobs they do but will all that's gone on I wish there was more training and better screening of the applicants. All you have to do is watch the video of the shooting in Pasco Washington to see a complete breakdown of common sense with deadly results. This video appears like it could have gone badly, hopefully they use this as a learning moment, too bad it's the taxpayers that will ultimately pay the bill on this and similar episodes.
