I had this very straight and original Bennett 1066 which at one time thought about restoring it. After long consideration decided not to resort it but just clean it up and seal to stop any potential of more rust. Michigan's favorite color. Here is what I found on the journey and what I did.

The pump was remarkably clean and everything was still in place. I don't know what brand it started life with but it only had a quick repaint to Sunoco. The computer looked really clean and the reels are in great shape so I only waxed them. This pump must have been a meeting place for some young lovers who did their own branding.

The one door had problems when they placed the Sunoco decal over another old decal which I could not determine what it said. So, I scraped off the decals and blocked out the damaged area and blended in color which I also blocked out. I had one door with a good decal so I reproduced that for this door.

I was actually able to save the original grommets and reuse them. I had to purchase a new set of bezels and Bennett inserts, hose and make the decal. Other than that this guy is the way it was when retired. It now proudly stands in my shop office for me to enjoy. Now I'm on the hunt believe it or not for the freaking fluorescent bulbs that sort of work, I have found some that I may be able to modify to fit and hopefully work. Other than that its just look and have a beer time.

Keeping it "un-restored" takes time and effort I see. Nicely done and it looks good where it sits.

The more I see the unrestored/rusturartion pumps the more I like them. The layers of paint one can see through the chips and scrapes add character and charm to a pump.

Looks really good Les- you did an excellent job. I prefer honest wear to "over restored" any day too.
