I know that this topic comes up all the time with many different ideas. I spent 2 minutes each on these signs with A-MAZ Clean and Green. It took off 40 years of rust and crud instantly I have tried Barkeepers with minimal results. Available thru AMAZON.com.
Make sure to order it with cleaning pad that is available.

I've used Brass-o and that works good as well.

I just purchased a bottle of Whink. I read good things about it removing rust stains porcelain. It is primarily used to clean rust from sinks and toilets, but it specifies they must be white sinks or toilets.

Jim the only clean and green product I see on Amazon is Water stain remover. Is that what you used?

Not Jim but answering, as I literally just ordered some to give it a try. Thats the stuff I think, the water stain remover, if you look at the label in the amazon picture it says "clean and green" on it. They also make a sealant, not sure if anybody has tried that.

I tried using some gloss tile sealant not too long ago, that worked pretty well for signs that are clean but have lost some of their outer glaze. It seemed to soak in on the porous areas, did nothing to the other areas. Overall, it evened out the sign, improved the color a little, nothing dramatic, just kind of evened out the sign from the good to bad areas shinewise. Sorry dont have any pics, probably wouldnt see it anyway.
