Was just curious if they are still around. Were they out of Peoria? The local D-X then later in the early 70's, Sunoco, station was supplied by them. At least I remember seeing "Sweeney" on the tanker truck that came to town. Did they have their own globes?? Thanks to anyone who can shed some light....

Several years ago someone gave my son a box of maps. One of them was a Sweney map that had the locations of all their stations on it. If I remember correctly they had 18 stations.Or stations in 18 towns. I'm pretty sure they were all in Illinois. I can't remeber the date on the map, but it came with a bunch of maps from the 40's.
The globe book says Sweney Gasoline and Oil Company was from Peoria.
I doubt the trucks you saw in the 70's were from the same company. I haven't seen anything that would indicate the company was around after the 40's or 50's. Yes, they had their own globes. All Sweney globes are rare. I've seen fewer than 10 of them for sale in 7 years.
Not sure if this helps or not. Bob
