I received this via email this morning. I'm passing this on with the hope that everyone enjoys the Memorial Day holiday weekend, and that everyone takes a moment to reflect and remember the sacrifices made.
It's the reason that Memorial Day exists......
The sound of taps echoes across the distant hills as the flag flutters half mast in the cool breeze.
Fresh flowers adorn neat rows of white headstones as far as the eye can see.
A young girl holds her Mother's hand, wondering why she is in this strange place, and is Daddy ever coming home?
Parents stare at the picture of a child who was supposed to bury them, not the other way around.
Amidst the crowd a scattering of veterans stand alone, eyes transfixed with the thousand yard stare as images of fallen comrades parade through their mind.
Some feel lucky. Some feel guilty. Some feel nothing at all.
Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine. Brother. Mother. Sister. Father.
More than one hundred have joined our collective memories this year.
They have joined the tens of thousands who have died in battles before them.
They are gone, but never forgotten.
They remain in our hearts, our memories, and our cemeteries.
We miss you. We love you.
We pray no more need join you.
Dorian J. Cougias Veteran
Everyone have a safe Memorial Day.

I'd like to pass on a little info,...as you know my user name is SWABBY...,I'm 60 yrs old and spent 20 yrs in USN (hense SWABBY). I was never in-country in Vietnan, but was on two destroyers off-shore that shelled so many 5inch rounds that I can't remember. When we came back from Viet Nam, ...well you all know how the military was treated at that time......Anyway, I'm so prowd that I'm an AMERICAN that I could proclaim it forever. But I suspect we all feel the same way....All have a safe and happy Memorial Day.....SWABBY
