I just purchased this today. It is a really neat piece that I think is from the 40s or early 50s. The top spins the words around and it says different sayings. The question I have is that this nasty wall paper or cloth like material has been put on it and under it is just the backing. I am assuming some type of veneer went on this but I am not sure. Has anyone ever seen one so they can show me what it should look like?

Nice find. I agree, it`ll look much better without the paper.

Thanks Dave if I knew what an original looked like I could likely make something close for it but I'm just not sure exactly what it should look like.

Jon, is there a chance someone painted the original paper covering white recently in an effort to make the unit look better? I have seen genuine Buick dealer display cases (used for showcasing Buick accessories) from this era with the exact same pattern paper on them. However, the original color on those cases was a very pale green. John
