A DS 3' round turned up at the Coastal Swap meet this weekend, traded hands at 7:02am for $1200 and was resold right away for $4500. I visited the collector that bought it after the show and gave him the bad news, he was able to go back to the dealer and get his money back.

Saw one at the Red Deer swap meet a couple weeks ago that Al Koral was selling on behalf of the dealer in Saskatoon. He wanted $1200 and I warned a few people about it. They are really easy to spot if you simply learn before you buy.
Good on you for advising the buyer Lance.

It was the same sign that showed up in Red Deer. The artwork is terrible, the steel blank is rough, its out of balance, and very crude. This isn't the actual sign, but it's the same seller, and artwork.

Thanks for putting this on . If this ever showed up in the east , the seller at a swap would take such a brow beating , I don"t think he would be back, or able to show his face . Thanks to everyone contributing to finding these guys out . red Indian signs do not just show up . Ask the history , buy from guys that know .

It appears that Gary Nemetchek (Saskatchewan Antique Dealer) is also selling these same signs including the repro Husky Flange signs that are going around, a Buffalo Flange and a couple versions of the Red Indian Motor Oil signs. All are repro signs, and although he is clearly stating so, it's the resellers who are flogging them on classified ads, eBay and swap meets that are setting people up to be screwed. http://realoldstuff.ca/reproductions.php

It's Gary Nemetchek here, and yes, I have bought and sold both old signs and new "fake" signs. As a dealer, I'm torn between staying with only what appears to be authentic antiques, or selling both. The fakes out of India are getting to be such a high quality of workmanship, that I'm starting to be afraid to pay good money for any sign, as there's a chance its not real, no matter how authentic it looks. The last thing I or anybody wants to find out is that we just paid good money for a fake. Where this all going to end, I don't know, but I mostly deal in gold and silver bullion, and it all comes down to working hard to keep one step ahead of the dishonest folks who find pleasure in stealing from their fellow man. Part of me would like to go back to dealing in only "real" signs, but I enjoy the two Buffalo signs so much, I'm glad that someone sold me these "fake" signs, and it would take a lot of money to convince me to sell them to someone else. And at the end of the day, isn't that the way to tell how valuable something is, is the amount of money someone would be willing to pay for it ? Love them or hate them, just like fake Tylenol pills, fake signs are here, and we need to learn how to distinguish them from the real ones and enjoy what we have, real or fake. After all, at the end of the day, I think a good number of us like the signs for their beauty of artistic design, and not only because they are old. Do I speak for anyone else as well, or do I need to reconsider ?
