I acquired these pump plates with a pump I purchased , are these real or reproduction?

there are no grommets in the holes

My Dynafuel plate and ribbons all have yellow backs.
I didn't think the ribbons were repoped. But maybe they are. Hopefully the pump restorer guys can help with that question.
Unfortunately even original Dynafuel plates don't have any markings that repopers could leave off or screw up, so I.D.ing them from fakes is tough from a picture.
But at this point, with these black backs, I'm thinking these are repops.
I look forward to seeing what others have to say.

I had a complete set at one time,, the short pieces look like a different length.. ( mine were original for sure ) , don't remember what the back looked like but I would lean to yellow..?

The expectation is for the back of the pump plate to be porcelain just like the front.

I don't know if anyone else can confirm they have ever seen original porcelain pump plates that weren't porcelain front and back?

thats what I thought is that the backs should be yellow, but I never seen the ribbons offered anywhere so wasn't sure.
the short pieces are curved to fit the door of the pump.
they unknowingly came with the pump I bought so I guess you can say they were a bonus.
not sure if I am going to put them on the pump or not.
it has the holes in the doors and you can see the outline for the large plates that were on this pump before

The back of the Pump Plates are not always the same as the fronts as my blue Sunoco ones are grey/black but all my dynafuels are yellow So I question your plates as I would have to look closer. I have seen the same with the ribbons as I have an original set I took right of the pumps that were black/grey on the back. I believe they were from different manufactures.

The ribbons have been reproduced like 20 years ago but you can really tell the difference as they are a lighter gauge metal and the backs of the are really rough texture not normal smooth porcelain. They weren't massively reproduced as I remember it was just a restorer making some for a pump an it was cheaper to make a few sets.

Mike, that's what it looks like he has, those short run restoration pieces with the unfinished backs.

I'd expect those black/grey versions you were talking about were porcelain base colors.

My understanding for original porcelain pieces (especially large ones) is that if you didn't apply porcelain to the entire piece there could be issues with metal warpage/bowing as succeeding layers of color were added. As the surface of exposed metal versus porcelain would cool differently it would cause a piece to bow or warp directionally.

I believe modern repops use a different application process (perhaps cooler and/or all colors at once?) so warpage isn't as prevalent.

Regardless, I have yet to see any originals be single sided porcelain, which helps when certain repops turn up.

Ribbons were made in different lengths for different pump models. The ribbons were avilable a few years back as repos. Think it was somebody in eatern U.S. that made them. Don't think you can get them now.
