First, I'm not a collector, so please be gentle.

I have an old Bowser oil pump that is marked "Self Measuring Pumps and Storage Systems" Pump #V36383 Figure 41

I've put some pictures in a zip file at www.scherervillecentral.org/pump.zip .

First of all Howard, welcome to the best darn petro site on the web. Dont worry about questions like yours, most of us started out the same way.

Cool pump. I tried to post the pics for you, but I've got a new computer that I haven't figured out yet.

That style of pump is called a "Blind pump" some people refer to them as "Previsible". They're called that because they were made before the visible pumps, the ones with the glass cylinders. It will pump a maximum of 1 gallon, like the tag says. The little lever on that rod, rotates to choose the stops, that are set at different amount. Thats a GREAT pump, if you're looking to get started in this hobby, your off and running....

That broken leg can be repaired. I'm sure that many of the other follks here will offer advice on how you can go about fixing it. I've got my own ideas, but I'll save them for later.

The Bowser 41 is pictured on page 99 of my Gas Pump Identification book. It was introduced around 1900, but it was still being sold in 1955 as a commercial pump. It's value is around $500 but you will have to subtract for the broken leg.

I belive that $125 to $225 is more realistic in unrestored condition complete.
