Finally got back to the restoration of the GLM "Fry" 17 external pump. It's all dismantled and about rust free. I am now convinced that electrolysis is the way to go for me. Check out the pic of the side sheet before I flipped it over.

To my questions, the external pump has what looks like the same thread used to pack the internal gas tube but I am missing whatever used to go on there. Can I assume that this is the same type packing nut? Does anyone have a picture of it so I can fabricate one?

What is the cork float valve in the top of the visible for? Reduce gas pressure build up? How would you use it in the restored pump? I thought I'd just clean it up and put it back. You really can't see it with the metal shroud around it.
