I have an Erie 77 and I'm interested in finding out more about it. Can you point me to some sources where I can find out the years it was produced? how many? approx value after restored? etc... Mine is restored to be a Standard Oil Red Crown Premium. The pump has been repainted red. Does anyone know what color Crown goes on top? I believe it was a white & gold crown for premium but I really don't know for sure. Any information you have would be appreciated. Mine Serial Number plate says Serial # KH 5390 with a UL Approval # 956410 if that helps.

Thanks,

Riley (rwarddri@tampabay.rr.com)

A Gold Crown was used for Premium gas in 1956. Your pump was made in late 30's early 40's. I have seen the RED/GOLD, but that was also a 50's globe. The RED CROWN ETHYL Globe was all
White, except the early ones with the raised lettering.

Your Erie 77 was introduced in 1940, and your pump was made in August of 1940. As for value, the committee who helped me with values for all the equipment that will be in my new book, value the pump at $500.00 unrestored, and without a globe. As for a restored value, that depends on the quality of restoration you do. I remember a vendor showing up at Columbus one year with about five "restored" pumps. When I opened the door of one of them to look inside, the door fell off. Also, he had done nothing, not even cleaning the inside of the pump. I also remember a phone call from a restorer who told he had just restored a pump, and was quite proud of the fact that he had had the frame chrome plated. This is why I valued pumps in unrestored condition in my book. If you are interested in any literature on your pump, ads, sales brochures, or parts/repair manuals you can contact me at: jhsim@swbell.net
