So I have a quick question. I own a couple rare cool looking signs out of my large collection, and these have been trimmed. One has been trimmed a little on one end while the other has been trimmed like half an inch all the way around the sign I believe. They don't come around a lot but obviously I would rather have the unaltered versions. My question is, what is your take on trimmed signs? Would you keep them in your collection or are they worthless as a collector? How much does it hurt their overall value? Am I needlessly obsessing to have the perfect collection, as after all, I own about 90 or more original unaltered signs. I appreciate any comments you could give on the subject thanks.

...they definitely hurt the value, relative to an uncut sign...but (given your description of the loss) they're not worthless...post some pics...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

You have to register and login to the Resize Tool.

On the New Topic and New Reply form is a Resize link just below File Manager. Click on that link to go to the new Resize Image Tool.

On the Resize page, register with your Shop Talk user name and password
You are not automatically registered. Click "Register" on upper right
After registering, click "Login" on upper right
Upload photo to be resized by clicking "Add Items" in your album
After upload, click the filename or thumbnail to view full resized image. Right click the full resized image and choose "Save."
Submit that saved image to the Shop Talk "File Manager" upload tool. (browse to find that saved image)

I have bought cut down signs, sold them, and cut them. They are what they are. The ones I have cut down, I looked at as I was improving or salvaging. When I sold them the buyers were informed. The price would also reflect the condition.

Some of my favorite signs are cut from larger signs. I always prefer original conation but if I like it and the price is alright with me then so be it.

I bought this rooster sign knowing it was cut from a larger sign because I really liked it. A friend sent me a picture of what it should have looked like. Unfortunately my older sister saw it, liked it so much that it is now on her kitchen wall as a loaner, a thousand miles away. I'll get it back someday.

I bought a Gulf sign years ago like the one pictured. It is the better panel out of a much larger sign. I tried to sell it at a reasonable price but no one showed any interest so I die cut the Gulf out and hung the sign on the wall for several years and have enjoyed it. Since then I found another and tried to sell it. {the one pictured} No luck. Since it is in better condition then the one I already had I decided I will die cut it and sell my old die cut one. Had no problem selling the old die cut one for more money then I was asking for the uncut panel.
Only trouble is it is a year later and I have not gotten around to cutting the Gulf sign out and I have lived all this time with a large sign missing out of the display on the wall.

Henry love the rooster sign. Looks life like staring out the back as it is leaving your house for better digs at your sisters place. However having that stare at me everyday while I am eating breakfast might be a bit to much.
