Old Gas Guys,
Another restored pump for sale, just finished! Old Gas price is $4400. Pump was blasted to bare metal and repainted with silver/black/red base-clear urethane paint. Pinstriping where the different colors meet up. Please see the ebay listing for better pictures than I can post here!
EBAY ITEM # 301663001478
<<<< RESTORED GAS PUMP, BENNETT MODEL 371, TEXACO >>>>
This pump has just undergone a complete restoration. The pump was completely disassembled and sandblasted to bare metal. The panels were straightened and multiple coats of primer applied. The paint is multiple color, red/black/silver with intricate pinstriping. A base/clear urethane paint system was used. Once painted, the panels were further polished and buffed to create a show car quality finish.
The wiring in this pump is all new. LED type bulbs were used and also a dimmer switch was installed that can be accessed through the side access door. The globe is a reproduction globe; the body of the globe has been polished. The nozzle is also polished too.
I believe this model was made between 1938 and 1940. Have local pickup only, but I will crate for shipping.

Would this be considered a "fantasy" restoration?

Would this be considered a "fantasy" restoration? Never really thought of it that way, I guess you could, it's custom paint on an original pump. The black red and silver are all colors you'd see on Texaco pumps. Thanks for all the nice posts!

Would this be considered a "fantasy" restoration? ...yes...no pump would have been painted this way at a Texaco station...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I think the term fantasy is probably unfair. Usually when you hear fantasy it's an item that never existed. This is an original pump with a custom paint job, the colors we used are typically texaco colors. Of course, a gas station would never pin stripe or go this elaborate in painting. I do think the gas stations pretty much did whatever they wanted, at least that what it seems from all the paint I've stripped!

I agree, a little unfair label. I was going to comment, but I know Gulfiend Gasman are veteran members and I didn't want to come across rudely or disrespectful. I respect the veterans on this website and their knowledge. I don't think he meant Anything bad with the word, but I've never heard anyone describe a pump to be "fantasy" from the paint job, but usually the word would be associated with a sign that had never existed.
This is a fantastic pump and restored what I would call " over the top ". Very nice!!
