At least their advertising states that they are repops & they will be dated on the back. It is apparent that most aren't so honest with their "antique reproductions".

"These will be available in Mid August.
We have several styles of antique reproduction (these are brand new) porcelain signs.
18" round oil/gas designs. Assorted door push designs.

Not the flimsy tin or steel. These are top quality porcelain coated steel. VERY NICE!

Looking for dealers to carry our line. We plan on growing a large selection of shapes and designs.
(Note: all signs are dated on back so no funny business)"

I see nothing wrong with it. Many of us have supported the existing mail order websites with similar signs. I am actually going to inquire about being a dealer.

Guy is doing nothing wrong, he's dating them. The guy down the line that obscures the date is the problem but that's a problem with any repro. We need the repros on the market IMO.

Is the date printed in the porcelain or just printed over the porcelain where it can be removed?

Why do we need repros on the market?

Repros I needed man caves, restaurants, gas pump restos, etc. there's not enough originals to go around and there too expensive for the average person. I think everyone's energy is best applied to getting repros dated and/or marked. Repros are needed. I feel bad for guys like this guy, he's really making repros right, marking them, but he's still taking heat for it.

We'll have to agree to disagree about the "need" for repros. The decorator/man cave signs are often fantasy pieces that are easy to distinguish from reproductions.
I don't buy the too expensive for the average person argument either. That's a cop out for the people that don't want to put in the time and effort into building a "collection" of original items. People want to blur the lines between collector and decorator.
Yes, this sign maker seems to be doing things right, but we all know some unscrupulous re-seller will try to pass those signs off as original.

I'd like to see a pic of how he's marking them. It's a smart move on his part to make it removable, he can gain another market, the wonderful liars and thieves of Ebay and elsewhere. By marking the back instead of the front it makes it much easier to misrepresent as original. If it's inked, easily removed, if it's embossed or debossed into the porcelain, chip it off. I guarantee someone will get taken by one of these. I say cover the back completely with the word FAKE

Here is the reply I received:

we are looking for folks with existing store fronts as well as show sellers and/or flea market swap meet sellers.
as long as you have a valid tax id you can be a dealer.

wholesale prices are as follows:
door pushes: 15-20 range each wholesale
18" round: 49.50 each wholesale

Min opening order $250
We have large quantity of each design available. Several more designs, shapes and sizes in production and
coming over the next several months.

Trent, thanks for posting the info on it.

I understand what everyone is saying above against reproduction signs. I'd say my point is more pragmatic, making reproductions is not illegal assuming it's not trademark infringement. It's better to ask reproduction manufacturers to mark there items so at least there's some identification. Asking them to not make anything at all will probably fall on deaf ears entirely.
