Does anyone know if the Bennett 966 gas pump was used by any particular oil company? Or did one company use it more than other oil companies?
Thanks

Thanks, I like to restore the pumps to the most likely original color and company.

A lot of companies used Bennett pumps. Sinclair, Chevron, Shell, Cities Service and Richfield are some that I have seen in original photos or unrestored pumps.

As Matt says, Bennett sold many of the 966 to all kinds of oil companies, but also as mentioned above, Sinclair probably bought more of them.

As I have always said there are no pump police out there to tell you, you made a wrong decision, restore it to any company you want. Did you work in a Shell station, have a relative who owned a Phillips station, restore it to make a memory come alive.

Looking at the colors under the old paint, it looks like it may have originally been a Shell pump. According to the last coats of paint, it looks like it may have finished out its life as a Red Lion gas pump. Was Red Lion still being sold in the late 50's or early 60's?
Thanks for all the info.

The one I have was Sinclair, with the early 60's Dino scheme. Some companies would favor one make/model, and would work with the pump companies and buy in bulk to get better deals on the equipment. This is still the case in today's times.
