I ran across this offering on eBay. I would be grateful to the more experienced members to help understand if this sign is the real deal or not. After being "burned" before I thought I would use this forum to get some opinions. Thanks in advance.

It looks alright to me, but I'm not very experienced with Sunoco signs, so we'll let someone more experienced weigh in on it.

I wish I could say I knew more about this particular sign. But I have never held one in my hands. However, seeing that it has the studs on it, it sure makes me believe it to be real.
If someone who has one, can confirm that the back is supposed to be blue, then I would bid away!!
Personally, I think you are fine with this sign.

Here is one that sold at Barrett Jackson for $420. Although some time ago. But it has that same small makers mark text below the 190.

Is the sign Tin or porcelain. None of my porcelain ones have a blue back

Thanks

I have a yellow Sunoco 200 and it is porcelain. Mine has a charcoal gray back. The description does not indicate but I can send a note to find out. That does concern me if the blue back is wrong.

That's interesting Mike that your backs are not blue.
Did they make these signs in non porcelain?

I wrote and asked if it's porcelain or not.

One other thought. This was the description in the listing.
"vintage automotive memorabilia sign"
Memorabilia?? I'm not sure I like the sound of that.

I've had several of these through the years. They're painted tin, with studs.

I just heard back from the owner. He said it was tin. Were all the blue ones tin while the yellow ones porcelain?

No, My blue ones are porcelain. It looks like a makers mark on the middle lower front and between that and the blue back made me think it was the tin style. I would say it all looks to be right.

Thanks

So to summarize some were porcelain and some were tin. Do you know if it had to do with age...for instance the older ones porcelain?

I have never been told the age difference though I think the porcelain ones are older, the thing I have seen is just that they were by different manufacturers.

Thanks

Mike, does your porcelain one have the 190 on it?
