Hey guys I'm sure this has already been talked about, but I looked for old post and couldn't really find anything. If a etched milk glass gas globe is faded would it effect the value if you stripped and re painted one side and left the other side original? Or is it just best to leave both sides faded for value purposes?

I plan to line all my globes up on my wall with lighting. I know for my own personal pleasure I would like to have one nice side to display, but I also think of my stuff as an investment for the future and I don't want to de value it in any way. Just think of it this way: if you were somewhere buying a globe that had been repainted on one side would that make you pay less for it? I know everyone has different opinions, that's why I'm going to choose the majority vote on this one.

Personally I like ope globes. If you are going to display them strip the worst side and repaint it, leave the back original ( that way there is no question about it being original) The value is unchanged IMO....

Just how faded is it? If it's washed out a lot then yes, repaint it. If it still has a fair amount of original paint I wouldn't repaint it. There are collectors that prefer original paint so it can effect value somewhat.

Here's the globe in question. Should I just leave it as is or paint one side? If I were to paint it I would just do the orange since the black is fine. Would you recommend rubbing compound on the black or orange to brighten it up? I just don't want to take away any value away from it, say when I'm 80 and might want to sell it.

That globe is way too good to even consider repainting it.

That is not an etched globe! It's cast and do not repaint! Clean with abrasive cleaner best you can and enjoy it. Paint is fired again not etched. Scott B.

Even if it was an etched globe it's way to nice to repaint.

I believe the black is original, it has a light oxidation evenly over the black that doesn't show in the photo, which will probably clean off.
