This has most likely been discussed in another forum, but I thought I might ask the question again as I didn't really get an answer from the globe forum. Just more confused about its authenticity.
I have a milk glass screw bottom globe that holds a pair of 13 1/2 in. lens. The base is a six inch copper , I guess it's called a fitter, that has : PAT. NO-1604773 stamped into the copper. The copper part is actually 6 inches at the bottom of the opening. I was able to unscrew the globe with a little WD-40 and the actual glass part of the globe is 5 inches wide, so I'm assuming this means the globe is a 1/2 inch in thickness. It is sort of yellowed compared to the white wall it is against. It definitely is not a bright white. It also has a ridge around the outer edge. I don't have a known original to compare this to. I don't see any actual markings on the globe itself and I'm not sure where to look if it is marked.
I bought this about 10 years ago on a popular auction site. Does anyone think this sounds like it is original or a repro. It's also right at 5 inches from edge to edge on the side. I weighed it with one cracked lens and got 9.8 lbs. with the copper base rescrewed to the globe Any help would be gladly appreciated. A value would be nice as well, just th globe, not the cracked lens.

Thanks guys for your help. I had a hell of a time getting the copper base to screw off. I was scared I was going to break the globe.
I really appreciate the help you've provided.

Original-- I don't know of anyone reproducing the copper screw base type of globe bodies? Chuck Pergl makes screw base narrows. I think they are Sinclair molds with a screw on them. Dan

This was purchased in early 2004 and was very dirty when I bought the item. I cleaned it up. Did Chuck Pergl make these back then? Purchased through eBay for well over $400.00 and picked it up in a old shed in East Texas.

Purchased through eBay for well over $400.00 and picked it up in a old shed in East Texas. If you paid well over $400 for a globe body in 2004 you way overpaid! In 2004 an original narrow screw base body would sell for about $160. Current price would be $250-$300. Why don't you email a picture to Pergl and ask if it's one of his bodies? Here's the email address found on his website... PerglGlobes@yahoo.com
