Hello all - does anybody know what these tags are? They are approximately 5-6" in length x 1/2" wide. Some of the porcelain tags are very nice. If I had to guess, I would say they might be tags used on a tanker truck to identify the fuels being transported?
Thanks!
Eric

Eric as you surmise; product ID tags from Union Oil of CA. If, I'm not mistaken; used mostly at Refining Plants and Bulk Storage Plants/Farms... Tidewater Flying A in the 60s.. Used metal tags on their Truck valves for different grades of gasoline... (at that time; they only had regular and premium).... Some of mine; Associated/Tydol/Veedol/Flying A:

Back when I worked at a Chevron station back in the 60's the stations themselves had them on the ground storage tank openings to designate the brand so the truck dumped into the correct ground tank.

Interesting; I too worked at a Chevron Station during the late 60s...
We had small brass/bronze markers/medallions next to our filling caps to designate which underground tank was for what product... Somewhat like the Gulf Crest and GoodGulf medallions, that were sold here on Oldgas a month or so ago.... But, larger in size...
Seems, that these tags had multiple uses....

Thanks guys for the info. I'll have to admit these are fun to find and collect. Bob - nice collection! I'll keep my eyes open for your brands and let you know if I find any.
