"its worth what somebody is willing too pay the day you sell it"
That statement doesn't even make sense..."true" worth and value are determined over time and with multiple factors included. One sale high or low means nothing...What if either of you guys were to offer up one of your HIGH dollar globes for sale and on " the day you sell it" the bid or offer was less than half what you were expecting would you sell it and say "oh well that's what it's worth today" ?? hell no. Your only factoring in the idea someone willing to pay you over the value of a item with statements like that.

You don't do these things with your houses, your cars, your boats etc... Just makes me sick to my stomach at times. I bet half these people wouldn't have the b#%^@ to put these prices at shows. Because they would get laughed at all day long.

I guess as a restorer whether it be a car, house, no boat, or other things you get laughed at by some where as others will want to buy. What I may think is high on some items others will think I am crazy not to buy.
But I do have to agree on some of the things listed.
But take this thought, some people do not want to spend the time to find, restore, or whatever and figure there time is worth more. Look at the prices at BJ or other high end auctions, No way is it worth the price to probably 90% of us, but it sells.

I so miss DB at times like this.
One thing for sure if he was still with us this thread would not needed to be started . Can just hear some of his comments about this . Makes me laugh. To answer the question honestly, I feel there are still some good buy's out their, But some of the pricing is greed and stupid. Best thing is I'm not forced to pay that. Gene

Craig I'm not talking about anything like that.
Here's an example a Wayne 70 in "Good" shape 5 years ago was getting $500.00 most of the time, can we all agree on that ? Depending on what part of the country also but we're close here right ? The same Wayne 70 today is not worth $2250.00. A Tokeim 36B 5 years ago was $1600.00-$2000.00 today $5000/$6000.00. A Texaco SSP Fire Chief 12" X 18" was $125.00 for a minty one, today the same sign $250.00 and "YOU" pay the shipping. A Wayne 60 is another one. The list is endless. I know these sellers are not stupid they find an item for next to nothing, buy it and tack on say $500.00 if the buyer offers him $200.00 less he's still laughing all the way to the bank.
I'm also not talking about the true/honest sellers on here that find a can out there for $75.00 and list it here for a $100.00 I think most people on here know exactly what I'm talking about, but tip toe around it. How about the roller nozzle that's gone from an unheard of $500.00 when Dick Bennett was alive to $950.00, really ? I hope I can find one at a flee market for $25.00 and offer it here for a couple hundred to a pump collector with an 850 who's restoring one and needs one, but can't afford one for a $1000.00 a gas pump nozzle.

This thread kind of confuses me. And Doug, I can't help but wonder what spawned your original thought/question.
Steve Coppens Always interested in Sunoco items! Really want a Sunoco National pump ad glass!!

Yes Blacktee I understand now and yes I do agree with you on these points. I was taken back by some of the latest offerings but I look for pumps that are standard on the east Coast and not on The west. I am left on the side lines because of the jump, but people are paying it. It is tough and you are right on these many points.

One mans junk, is another mans treasure. And your point of view depends on which side of the isle your standing on. So what appears to be greed to one, appears to be stupidity to the other. It's all a point of view. The slow methodical rise in prices is something most of us who are of a certain age were used to over decades of being around pertoliana. With the electronic world making everything much much faster and TV making everyone an expert on everything, gas and oil, it seems, has joined the rocket sled ride to pricelessness. I think Randy is correct. If two people agree to a deal, each is receiving what they perceive as fair value at that time. Going forward the market will change, because it is never stagnant, and at that point you can say I got a good deal or I paid to much. Damn, wish I never sold that crystal ball!

My understanding of Dougs post is of all these piece of ***** signs showing up,mostly on facebook, that have ridiculous high prices and even more responses of "great sign great price" yet they go unsold but keep getting reposted. It has gotten a bit out of hand. I could be wrong but that is how I interpreted the original post.
