Well, here is how the story goes. A few weeks ago I purchased what I thought was a repo Mobilgas 13.5 globe off Ebay for what I thought was a good price for a repo!A few days later after recieving the globe the seller contacts me and says he has a Mobilgas Special globe I could have for the same price if I was interested.Well at the time not really needing another I passed on his offer.
A couple of weeks pass and I get another email from the seller. He sold the other on ebay and the guy that purchased it contacted him and told him these were not repos but nos originals!
What I would like to know is this really a original? At the base of the body it says:
CAPCOLITE NO.216 REG. U.S. PAT.NO 1,933,866 THE CINN. ADV PRODUCTS CO.
I looked at my Texaco repo and it dont have any markings on it.So is this the real deal and how much is a NOS globe worth in excellent condition?
The only bad part of this deal is that I passed on the Mobilgas Special. But the good part I may have got a great deal on a original Mobilgas globe!!!!!!!!!

If the body is very white it is a reproduction if it looks a bit transparent it's an old body. The lenses look fine from here.

It's real, I bought the Special globe and informed him it was real. Mine came with the original box. He said he offered it to you but you passed! You got a good buy for $75. I posted mine in buys of the week a while back, with the story and a pic of the original box. Darin

I take it you mean the capcolite body! Yes the repops have the same inscription on them. The difference is that the real ones have 4 lens alignment pegs on them and the repops only have two (one on each half).

Yes that's what I mean, with this kinda stuff I'm a newbie ha, so the globe I purchased, ( it has 4 all together, two tabs per each piece of glass) is original? It's supposed to be but got worried tonight when a buddy that's in car club said plastic body globes are reproductions and originals are metal. After reading I see there are original plastic globes so I was just trying to confirm it.

You're in great shape! I forget what year they first came out, but there are many, many original plastic globe bodys. Its a shame that some individuals believe them all to be reproductions??

We'll thanks for the quick reassurance, yeah he knows a lot about cars but I guess his understanding of globes is limited, thanks again for answering my question.

Plastic body globes were first used in 1932! Some plastic repro bodies have the Capcolite 216 markings, some don't. I did a tutorial on my website about the different types of globes. It's not as complete as the one on the globe CD, but you might find it useful. http://www.lastgas15.com/types-of-gas-pump-globes/Anyone that's serious about collecting globes should buy the gas pump globe guide cd by Benjamin and Henderson.
Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros. http://www.lastgas15.com/

I hear that comment all the time when folks unfamiliar with globes see my collection...."So the plastic ones are reproductions?". When you explain that they were first produced in the early 1930's they are quite surprised.
BTW, I was surprised to see this old topic brought up, hard to believe it was 4 years ago I got a heckuva deal on the Mobilgas Special in the original box....$99, while the original poster paid $75 for the Mobilgas globe! Darin
