The "Made in USA" seems a bit different than Reg Patent whatever you typically see...

I think I've seen the sign you are talking about in the last couple of days- instead of saying just "high" with the red back ground (as example in picture) it said "high compression" with the red back ground in center of sign.. ... This sign that is on ebay is a replica of a original its hand painted not porcelain just wanted to let everyone know the price reflects that

Really if it turns out to be a totally legit sign-And I'm in no way saying its not- being Sinclair, who knows what it might be worth to someone (or multiple people) with deep pockets that really want it. Its hard to say for sure, I'd say. I would agree with Jim that on a sign like this, a popular brand with many collectors, a rare/scarce piece could do much better than any estimates or "guesstimates" that could be given here. IMO, on a piece such as this the best bet would be to consign it to one of the popular petro auction houses and let 'er rip.....if you really want to know what it could sell for. It may be "plain", but I could still see this sign doing quite well at auction. Darin

The "Made in USA" seems a bit different than Reg Patent whatever you typically see... ...might be evidence that it was made for the Canadian market, as was previously mentioned...the Canadian Esso Ethyl (logo) globes also have 'Made In USA' along the bottom edge, just like this...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

The sign has a couple "Design points of interest". I think it could be real. I would like to see it in person of course. Does anyone have an old picture of one in use?

That sign was on south jersey craigslist for $750. I called at 9:30AM and was told it was still available, I was the first to inquire. I told him I would be there at noon to pick it up. I took a half day vacation, left work at 11, and on my drive there, the guy calls me and says "sorry, I sold the sign to someone else. He offered me $900". Needless to say, I had a few choice words for him. Here is a pic of the sign, same one. Guess that's why it took you 4 months to see it in person, had to get from South Jersey to Texas.

It sucks that the seller was not a man of his word. Serves him right that he sold it for far less than it's worth.
