Got this ebay purchase in the mail yesterday. Had it out of the packaging for a bout 3 1/2 minutes. Was heading to the garage to empty it, and I got careless and dropped it. Bummer!! Man she was a beauty too. I guess if you collect long enough, sooner or later your going to have a story like this.

I feel your pain. Had a racoon in my garage one night and it knocked over a full phillips needless to say. I empty all cans.

No smoking here, but if I too took pictures @ the time,I'd show you. Yes a full can has more weight, but an air can is not impervious to damage as some seem to insinuate. I recently went to a show, and someone kick out a table leg as 5 air cans fell & rolled & rolled and got dented on the edge, just like Steves. The embarrassed "kicker" paid for em. I had an 8' tall display cabinet once that had 2 Sunoco 1 gal. air cans on top of it.Someone bumped the corner of ths cabinet & they fell off and got dented. Sometimes it's not if they're full or empty, but rather how high they fall from and @ what angle.

Hey Steve, for what it's worth it happens to all of us sooner or later. I was cleaning some cans in the shop and had an early Phillips sitting on a shop chair by the work bench. A friend came by to visit, as he was talking to me he sat down and yup, right on the can. Butt squeezed the heck out of it.
Do it long enough and odd things will happen.

Oh man, I hope it wasn't one of those really early orange with the black text ones!! Being cardboard, luckily, I was able to pull it out pretty good. Now up on the shelf it doesn't look to bad.

Do it long enough and odd things will happen. so true. I've always been overly cautious with my items... but just this weekend I opened one of my garage doors without remembering my Tokheim 850 with a crown was sitting behind it and was too tall... garage door knocked that crown right off the pump and I got to find out what a crown sounds like falling from 7ft up onto concrete. Just had to laugh it off, and be glad it wasnt a Sweney globe.

Yes it was an early tin, I actually laughed because I have never seen him stand up so quickly. He brought me another from his collection which was really nice and I did not want to accept it from him but he insisted soar butt an all. Stuff happens.
