Kind of a cool story on two of those. They were in an auction maybe 4 or 5 years ago and I couldn't afford them then and figured I would never see them again. Then in 2011 at the Columbus show they were in the Matthews Auction and I decided to step up to the plate, figured what would be the chances of seeing the pair a 3rd time.

The third globe I bought from a fellow oldgasser that took pity on me.

Really enjoying this thread, glad Steve suggested it.

From what we see in some oil cans, it's somewhat obvious that the "Sun Oils" in the diamond logo is used well into the 30's at least.

Steve, I think you're really close on dating Todd's sign. I think it's between 1920 - 1925. Once Blue Sunoco was introduced in 1927, Sun Oils was getting phased out. I looked for some cans or other proof Sun Oils was used well into the 1930's and didn't find any right off, but I am at work today and really should be working.

Did find this link: http://www.suncor.com/en/about/749.aspx

Also found this ad from 1921 that mentions 'Eliminates Carbon'

Dan,
I went to check my books where I thought I remembered seeing "sun oils" on some cans that were stated to be 30's. I was wrong. The cans had the yellow diamond but it said Sunoco, not Sun oils. So this is interesting and I would say you are correct in that somewhere late 20's early 30's at best there was no more Sun oils in the logo's. It will be fun if we can pin point it any more than this.

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Hello. I have these White W/Blue lettering ad glass.
Steve, I believe you said these did exist.. do you have any history or info on these or anyone else?
We have the second intact just painted over.
I would think it's a generic BUT the pump only had about 9 years of public use before it was bought and kept UNCHANGED in the family..
All help is appreciated.

Steve, I thought for sure we would see the destiny lens here. Nice to see old threads have legs.
